The greyed out problem has disappeared. I created a new dictionary and that seemed to solve the problem. However, I am finding some words live. Add words like proper names or technical terms to your spell check dictionary or create and edit a new custom dictionary.

Thank you You need to mark the text of your document with the same language as one of your custom dictionaries. Normally, we advise you to have only one custom dictionary, and set its language to “no language” so that it can accept words from text marked in any language. Your problem is either you have set the custom dictionary to have a language, and your text is not in that language, or the text you are working on is in a language you do not have installed.
If it’s in a language you don’t have, Word can’t add it to the dictionary so it greys out the command. Thanks for your feedback. How satisfied are you with this reply? Barnhill’s post on January 25, Well, I’m not sure what fixed it, but it now works!
Very strange. The only thing I did was delete two other custom dictionaries installed by some American Institute of Architects software.

DIC the default dictionary. Made a copy of all the previously selected word from the Roamingcustom. DIC location. Closed Office and reopened the program. Reopened the test document, which now the option to add to dictionary was no longer greyed out and was usable.
I don’t have access to administer the network to verify, policies. This has stopped working for the user within the last couple weeks. They are a cloud client, and ince the new network was put into place the help desk lost the ability to administer the, only management change make changes.
I would think that being a cloud client they would have some rather strict policies in place. If it is a multi tenant environment – for sure going to be an issue! I would start there as you don’t have admin rights. Excel does not have a variable for worksheet names but it does have a variable for file name that includes the worksheet tab name. Read more….
